For the opening of the Tanzfestival Rhein-Main, we welcome four moving sculptures by the French acrobat, dancer and choreographer Yoann Bourgeois in a breath-taking parcours at the Staatstheater Darmstadt. Bourgeois is often called the "poet of suspension", who knows how to transport dancers and audience into extraordinary physical states: a square floating above the floor, with a table and two chairs on top of it. Slowly, hesitantly, a man and woman try to move towards each other on the square. But every gesture, every gaze, every movement makes the ground tremble. The couple move toward one another over and over again. Like other works by Bourgeois, Dialogue is a balancing act, in which the choreographer explores the body’s relationship to gravity, time and space in the shape of impressive metaphors for coexistence.
