In the double bill V/ertigo the Hessisches Staatsballet shows extreme situations from an uncertain life. Between the will to rise and the fear of falling, Skid suspends the law of gravity: on a 34-degree sloping stage plunging into the orchestra pit, the dancers evoke storylines of appearing and disappearing. After Thr(o)ugh, which was nominated for the theatre prize Der Faust in 2017, Skid is the second collaboration between the Hessisches Staatsballet and Belgian choreographer extraordinaire Damien Jalet.
The Belgian siblings Imre and Marne van Opstal are the shooting stars of the European dance scene. In close collaboration with the ensemble of the Hessisches Staatsballet plus choirs, in I’m afraid to forget your smile the two choreographers look at the moment of letting go as a transition to surrender and loss. A moment so tangible and ephemeral that time seems to stand still.
