SOMATIC TRATATA - RHYTHM, RUPTURE AND ROMANCE
Breath, voice, movement – these are the three key elements of Somatic Taranta, by Hannah Shakti Bühler and Simon Mayer. The repeating rhythms of the South Italian tarantella dance put the two dancers into a trance-like state. In their invisible interpersonal space the boundaries of body, mind and spirit break down, merge and are rediscovered. The two bodies playfully transform their (gender) roles and identities.
Sustained movement, rhythm and breath, enveloped in Simon Mayer’s live music, bring out the physical creativity of the dancers. The audience experiences a contemporary performative ritual, a dance concert that combines traditions – from Southern Italian tarantism to Alpine folk cultures. All in the play, the struggle, the love of the moving bodies.
