FIRMAMENTO
MARCOS MORAU / LA VERONAL

The photo shows two performers* seated in a small red rail vehicle on a theatre stage. The vehicle stands on curved tracks in front of a large screen. Several circular light elements are mounted at the front, while technical equipment is visible in the background.
A performer stands beside a puppet-like figure on a technical console fitted with audio equipment. A microphone, cables, and a mirror are integrated into the installation, combining stage design, object performance, and electronic devices.
Several performers occupy a stage featuring technical equipment, cables, and a projection screen. A small rail vehicle, an accordion, and suspended cable structures create a scene that combines sound, movement, and stage machinery.
Against a white background, an open technical cart with exposed wiring stands at the center. A performer extends upside down from the structure with legs raised upward, while a bundle of cables stretches across the floor toward the foreground.

Synopsis

The acclaimed company La Veronal creates a brilliant world in which there is a continuous interchange between reality and fantasy. In Firmamento Marcos Morau and his dancers focus on the point between being a young person and being an adult, a phase of life that is full of possibilities, expectations and uncertainties. Doors open to new worlds, rooms change their shape and characters navigate a labyrinth of memories, dreams and projections.

La Veronal’s distinctive movement language combines precise bodily images with narrative techniques from the visual arts and film. Out of fragmented gestures, mask-like characters, elegantly composed group arrangements and tableaux vivants a journey emerges through our powers of imagination, focussing our attention on our own life histories. In an age that is dominated by speed and pragmatism, Marcos Morau opens up space for fantasy and tells of the worlds that we create as children and that continue to shape our view of the present day.

This piece uses a number of stroboscopic effects that may have an effect on light-sensitive viewers.
