Synopsis

With Corps de Walk an iconic early work by the star choreographer Sharon Eyal returns to the stage. Created for the Norwegian company Carte Blanche in 2011, this work was first performed long before Eyal achieved international fame – but it already contains all the distinctive hallmarks that still define her artistic signature: hypnotic group formations, techno beats, fluid body images and a disconcerting beauty between ecstasy and discipline. Collaborating closely with her artistic partner Gai Behar and the DJ Ori Lichtik, Eyal devised a choreography that deconstructs the classic group scenes of ballet and transposes them to the hypnotic atmosphere of a futuristic club space. Here the dancers move like synchronised creatures, caught between marching and rapture, rebellion and disintegration. Almost 15 years later, Corps de Walk is now recreated by the Hessisches Staatsballett. A choreographic work about the mesmerising dynamic of the masses – of superb precision, sensuality and electrifying power.
