In Contre-nature Rachid Ouramdane combines dance and acrobatics in a breathtaking game of grounding and hovering in mid-air. Together with ten performers from the Compagnie de Chaillot with the most diverse backgrounds in dance and acrobatics, he devises a strong choreography in which bodies not only dance, but also fly, fall and catch each other. A tension develops between sticking heavily to the ground and the ecstasy of being in the air that touches on our innermost experiences – images of childhood, ageing, loss and what others leave behind inside us. Contre-nature is about our relationship to this inner landscape of memories. In the midst of fog, projected images and constantly changing rhythms Ouramdane creates a sensory force field in which the formal language of new circus combines with that of contemporary dance. A rapid and poetic journey through memory and the present – and an appeal for human solidarity in its fragile beauty.
Tip: On November 6, there will be a workshop for professional dancers with members of the Compagnie de Chaillot.
